4th of July Festivities!

I love Independance Day. I love red, white and blue, dressing my kids up in patriotic outfits, fireworks, getting Americana decor on sale for my red, white and blue themed kitchen and dining area and everything else about the 4th of July.

Our plans for this 4th of July were to decorate a flag cake, hang out around the house, do sparklers and go to our town's parade and fireworks display in the evening. The day started out pretty gloomy and the weather radar did not look good. Rain all day for us. I got the kids dressed in their red, white and blue clothes and made them take pictures. See those wooden stars they are holding? I found those in the Dollar Spot at Target..Score!

After pictures I let the kids decorate the Jello cake that I made the night before. If you haven't had Jello cake it's very good. I used a white cake mix and strawberry Jello. They iced it with Cool-Whip and used blueberries and strawberries to make a flag. I only helped a little.

After our cake decorating it started to rain. We figured the parade and fireworks would be canceled so we decided to take the kids to see Ice Age 3. What a funny movie! I found myself laughing out loud at many parts of the movie. There is some adult humor, but nothing too bad. I even got a little teary eyed at the end (I won't spoil the movie for anyone else though). As we were coming home we did see people lined up waiting for the parade. What dedication!

After dinner we let the kids do some sparklers on the porch. It was sprinkling a little by this time. So we were still waiting to see if we should try to go out and see the fireworks show.

We decided to head over to the park. We figured the kids weren't going to bed anytime soon and if we did stay home and they shot off fireworks we would hear them anyways. We had the perfect spot, and there was hardly anyone there. Too bad I have a horrible camera with a flash delay. Here are some odd pictures that I did get though.

I'd say it was pretty much the perfect 4th of July. We all had a great time just being together.
