What Goes On?

I have been avoiding my blog a lot lately. I'm not sure if it's because I am just super busy or because I really don't have anything interesting to write about. I'd like to think it's the first reason.

So I finally jumped on the wagon and started the Twilight Saga. My friend Emily and I, rented the movie a few weeks ago and just could not get what the big deal was. I personally didn't think it was that great, especially after hearing everyone rave about it. So we decided to start our own little book club and actually read the books...and I've been addicted from the start. I read through Twilight and thought it was so much better than the movie (which usually is the case). I borrowed the other three books (New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn) from a friend. I read through New Moon in one day, finished Eclipse yesterday and started Breaking Dawn last night. I can't put them down! I had a two week break from classes, which is good, since I obviously wasn't able to do anything else.

And speaking of classes..ugh dreaded classes. Autumn quarter starts tomorrow! I am not ready at all. I haven't even purchased my books yet...yikes. For those that don't know (though I think that everyone that reads my blog probably does) I am taking online courses to get a certificate in Medical Billing and Coding through UC Clermont College. I'm pretty sure that I did everything backwards in my life, which is why I'm still in school! It seems I am a forever student. I take two classes a quarter since they are online. I am not Super Mom (unfortunately) and I can't really manage the house, kids, and taking more than two classes at a time. But I'm trudging along, slowly but surely.

Let's talk about the kids and their schooling...

Camryn started her second year of preschool last week. She is now in the 4-5yr old class, or I guess you could call it Pre-K. I know I didn't dedicate a post to her, like I did for Avery when she started First Grade, but here are some pictures of her before school.

Her backpack is about as big as she is. And I must share the backpack story before I continue on. Camryn doesn't deal well with change. This is probably typical in a lot of 4 yrs old. She refused my offer to get new school shoes even when Avery was getting all kinds of fun, new things for school. So I dropped that, and tried to talk her into getting a new backpack. For a few weeks she refused that, saying she wanted to use her old one. Finally, she decided that she would like a new backpack (but she still wanted to keep the old one). Since it was the middle of September, there weren't a lot of options. I actually thought that they bookbags would be on clearance by the time we did go look (they were not. At least, not at Target). We found the backpack aisle and she immediately found this Disney Princess one. I mean, what's not to love? It's pink and it's princesses! I looked at the price tag...$25! So being the cheap frugal person that I am, I tried to talk her into looking at the other bags. I wasn't prepared for her reply. "Mom, you promised". Defeat.

And now, my firstborn, Avery. She got her ears pierced two weeks ago! She had been talking about it a lot and we took her on Saturday to Claire's. There was a little girl ahead of her, so we had Avery watch the process first. She didn't seem too traumatized watching the other girl get hers done. So she picked out the earrings she wanted, the purple dots were on and the Ear Piercer had the "gun" up to Avery's ear ready to go...and Avery decided she changed her mind. What?!

Before

Avery said she was scared and she didn't want to do it. But, the sterile earrings were already opened so I was pretty sure we would have to pay for the earrings, whether they were in her ears or not. We took a minute to talk about it and Avery finally said that she wanted to do it, but she was scared. So like any other good mother (right?? Haha) I held her hands down and kept her legs from kicking and made her do it! It actually sounds worse than it was. She did cry about it. It does hurt for a bit.

After

She was fine by the time we left the store and pretty excited about her new earrings. I wouldn't have made her do it, if she hadn't been talking about getting her ears done for awhile before that and I was positive she would not regret it after. She picked out some cute unicorn earrings for when she can change them, in about 4 weeks.

So that's about it for us..at least for the time being.

  1. I can't believe you got into Twilight! Anyway, good pictures. Has Avery been turning and cleaning her ears? I always hated that part.
