Movie Reviews

I thought I would share some reviews on the movies that I've seen within the past month (2 months?) or so. These aren't going to be reviews about deep hidden meanings, character flaws, or anything like that. Just what I thought of the movie, what I liked, didn't like, etc.

The kids were on Winter Break so we took them to see The Princess and the Frog. The movie overall was pretty good. There were some parts of it that were a little scary for me even! There is a lot of talk about Voodoo and "The Shadow Man". I'm not sure if the girls picked up on that, or even understood all of that. The characters were very likable. My favorite was a lightning bug named Ray. The ending, like all Disney movies, is of course "they all live happily every after", but this ending had a little twist to it.

The second movie we saw in the theater with the kids was Alvin and the Chipmunks the Sequel..errr I mean Squeakquel. The kids had seen the first one and liked it, so when the previews started for this one, they immediately wanted to see it. Of course, it has all the catchy popular songs in the previews that get stuck in your head. I thought this movie was cute too. I do like most kids movies though..so maybe I am not normal. There were several guest appearances too. A band called Honor Society, the dance crew with some members that were on So You Think You Can Dance?, and Charice, the young singer who has been on Oprah and Ellen.

500 Days of Summer was a movie that I wanted to see the first time I saw the previews. I love both of the main actors, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel, that are in this movie. This movie is sort of a love story with a twist as well. It jumps around in the timeline, but it also shows what day it is before, so you aren't completely confused with what is going on. The ending is not predictable at all like most love stories. I actually loved the ending.

Ok, Yes, I was 2 months late in seeing this movie. I was trying to avoid the crazed Twilight fans and thought seeing this movie so late would help with that. Unfortunately we sat in front of some tween girls that giggled every time "Edward" or "Jacob" said something witty, or sweet, or well pretty much anytime either of them opened their mouths to speak. I saw Twilight before reading the books and thought it was horrible. I did not get the obsession at all. So I broke down and got the first book to see what all the hype was about. I ended up reading all four books in 2 weeks! I was hooked. Yeah, the story is kind of silly, vampires, werewolves, but it's a love story, so I guess I am a sucker for romance. If you read New Moon, then you know that the beginning is really depressing (and if you haven't, well sorry for spoiling it). I thought the movie did a really good job of showing that. I even felt myself tearing up at times, because I felt so bad for Bella. I loved Bella's character in the book, but I'm not a huge fan of Kristen Stewart. I just think she is really kind of dull. The movie did a really good job and staying true to the book. I hate when movies end up being completely different from the book, especially when I've read the book and loved it. Needless to say, I am looking forward to June, when Eclipse comes out.

My friend Trischa and I went to see this last weekend. We thought we would be fine going about a month after it opening, again to avoid the lines, and boy were we wrong. The theater was pretty much packed when we got in, and we weren't even that late! We both found out that we hate going into a theater when the previews are already playing because it is dim and hard to find seats that are in a good spot or even seats that are together. We had to sit close to the front. I thought the movie was really good. I like action movies anyways and this movie has alot of good fighting scenes and they are not too gruesome. I'm not a big fan of movies that are about killing, guns, excessive weapons, torturing people. You get the idea. There were alot of funny one-liners. Holmes and Watson's friendship was really quite funny. Overall, I thought it was good and I didn't feel like I wasted money seeing it.

Well, I think that's it for movies. Feel free to post your thoughts on these movies, or even recommend some movies that you've seen recently. I love reading your comments!
