A lot of what I've read about surrogacy is that it's a "hurry up and wait" process. I am not a very patient person. I hate waiting. But I'm thinking I better get used to it.
I signed with the agency in November 2010 and decided to get my body ready for another (hopefully) pregnancy. I stopped drinking coffee, started taking a multi-vitamin and I even joined Weight Watchers about 9 weeks ago to try to lose the extra weight I was carrying around from my own kids. And I waited, and waited and waited some more for the perfect family to come along. I knew what I was looking for and maybe I was being too picky, but I also had faith that the perfect family would come along.
And sure enough they did! A few weeks ago L (from the agency) told me about a local family that was looking for a surrogate. Gave me a brief history and asked if I would like to have a phone conference with the IM. This was my first phone conference and I was nervous. We talked for about an hour and L was also on the call to field questions to both of us to see what we both wanted during and after a pregnancy, thoughts about termination and reduction, etc. We agreed on everything that we were asked about and I really felt a connection with her. The IM was so humble and just really genuine.
But then I had to do some more waiting. I had to have a home nurse come and take 2 vials of my blood to send out to the clinic to be tested to make sure that I was not a match to the IF. It's all a little confusing and scientific to me. The test would take 2 weeks to get the results back. 2 weeks! So I waited, all the time worrying that we wouldn't get the results we wanted. Finally I got the phone call from L with the results.
Are you sitting on the edge of your seat?!
GOOD NEWS! I was not a match and so we could proceed with the next step! We are meeting the IP's on Friday. I really have a good feeling about it, and felt like the timing and everything was more than just coincidence. I am so excited to find out what the next steps are..even if it means more waiting.
So exciting! I can't wait to hear more about this journey!!
